Sweet Moses, they’ve done it again
Apple unveiled a video ipod today. Sweet.
I really hope this ushers in a new era of video distribution. I hate DVDs. They scratch easily, and unlike scratched CDs, when they’re scratched, they really don’t work that well. The new iPod allows you to view video from the iPod to the TV (with a special connector, of course), and Apple’s lastest version of iTunes has downloadable, music videos and some (ABC) ad-free TV shows for $1.99 each. It’s too bad they partnered with ABC first. I would easily shell out $1.99 for The Apprentice, which happens to be on NBC. Oh well.
The downside? The new iPod has only three hours of movie playback time, as compared to 14 hours of music playback. Ick.
This bring to light a pet peeve of mine. Why are DVD cases so big? I thought the entertainment industry would have learned its lesson with the big, cardboard boxes they used for CDs in the early 1990s. Instead, DVD cases are big and bulky and take up way too much room. I’m trying to minimalize goods and maximize space. I hope today’s announcement from Apple helps pave the way for movie downloads.
